The Department of Languages and Intercultural Studies at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Spanish with a specialization in second language acquisition to begin August 16, 2026.
We seek a dynamic teacher-scholar who can demonstrate successful experience teaching undergraduate Spanish language courses at all levels and the ability to teach intercultural studies courses in English. The teaching load for this position is 3/3. The successful candidate will be expected to take on a leadership role in directing our basic language programs, incorporate high-impact practices and inclusive pedagogy, and oversee curricular and extracurricular activities. Familiarity with and the ability to put into practice ACTFL Standards are essential. Additionally, the candidate must be able to engage productively with faculty in a multi-language department that values a variety of perspectives.
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Spanish with a specialization in applied linguistics or second language acquisition
- Ph.D. in hand by start date of appointment
- Native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English
- Experience teaching language courses to students from a broad range of majors at a US institution of higher education
- Evidence of scholarly activity in SLA or related areas
- Evidence of proficiency in teaching with technology
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience coordinating language programs or supervising instructors, lecturers, or graduate teaching assistants
- Experience with course development in Languages for Specific Purposes
- Evidence of exceptional teaching
