The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan seeks applicants for a full time Lecturer III position to begin August 30, 2021. This is a non-tenure track position with a university year appointment.
A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer III in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three courses per semester, or the equivalent in other duties. We are seeking a second-year Spanish Coordinator to oversee Spanish 232 Special Topics language courses, create and supervise course materials, conduct classroom observations, participate in department-wide workshops and carry a full teaching load with one course release per ten courses coordinated. The Spanish 232 Special Topics Coordinator will closely mentor instructors as administrators and language educators through leading course meetings and workshops, providing sample classroom and assessment materials, and serving as a resource. The Spanish 232 Special Topics Coordinator will also actively recruit instructors to teach 232 Topics courses. Additionally, the Spanish 232 Special Topics Coordinator will work closely with a team of Spanish coordinators and under the Director and Assistant Director of Elementary Language Programs in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures regarding programmatic and curricular matters, and very closely with the 4th semester Spanish 232 coordinator to align objectives and outcomes. As a Special Topics coordinator, the candidate will also work closely with the French and Italian 232 Special Topics coordinators.
Qualified candidates will have prior experience in administration and/or course coordination and 5 or more years of experience teaching Spanish at a U.S.-based university. M.A. or Ph.D in Spanish, Applied Linguistics, Language Pedagogy or related field preferred. The successful candidate will be a dynamic teacher committed to excellence in both foreign language teaching and methodologies.
Familiarity with the communicative method of language instruction and prior experience teaching language via topics based courses strongly preferred.
